Over the summer of 2019, we have been busy working on a new responsive website design for Whitehead & Wood, sampling specialists with over 50 years of experience, based in Burnley.
The first part of this project was for our creative director, Paul, to go to the Whitehead & Wood manufacturing facility and art direct a commercial photography shoot of product samples W&W have created over the years. This was a meticulous challenge as a lot of the samples involve confidential information.
They needed a brand new website as their old website was coded using HTML and was very basic and couldn’t be edited easily. This is why we built a brand-new WordPress website that would double as a showcase of product samples, to communicate information about the products on offer, and show the quality received when investing in Whitehead & Wood’s in-house services, including constructional development, creative design, print, material cutting, finishing and affixing – the full package!
We worked closely with W&W Studios during the development of the website. One of the big focuses was to use a lot of white space, which allowed the product images, illustrations, and bold colours representing each sampling style to stand out.
The site was also designed to be responsive and optimised to load very quickly, which benefits organic search results in Google, which was a success as the website scores 92%, and fully loads in 2.8 seconds!
One of the fun elements of this project was enabling both the home slider and illustrations below to load at the same time. For example, the Shadecard slide to load at the same time as the Shadecard illustration. This was really challenging due to the transitions used within the slider, but we succeeded and it works fantastically!
Whitehead & Wood’s Managing Director, Simon was very impressed! He said “The website looks really professional and sharp – thanks for all your input!”
Always good to get good feedback, especially when we create websites that are really easy to navigate, super fast, and a great showcase for our clients businesses. You can see for yourself by clicking here.
