The brief
Whitehead & Wood, specialists in product sampling, asked Think to design a new responsive website. Their previous site was outdated and could not be edited. Although the project is now archived, it still demonstrates how thoughtful design and development can transform a brand’s online presence.
Art direction and photography
The first stage of the project involved art direction for a commercial photography shoot. This task required meticulous care because many product samples contained confidential information. We placed high-quality photography at the centre of the new site. This approach ensured Whitehead & Wood’s craftsmanship was shown with clarity and precision.
Website design and development
We designed and built a brand-new WordPress website that communicated detailed product information. It also showcased Whitehead & Wood’s in-house services, ranging from constructional development and creative design to print, cutting, finishing and affixing. Working closely with W&W Studios, we adopted a minimalist, white-space-driven website design that allowed product imagery, illustrations and bold colour accents to stand out.
One of the key technical highlights was synchronising the home page slider with supporting illustrations, ensuring both loaded seamlessly despite the challenges of complex transitions.
Performance and user experience
The site was designed to be fully responsive and highly optimised, achieving a 92% performance score and a 2.8-second full load time, boosting both usability and SEO rankings. With smooth navigation and a clean aesthetic, the website provided Whitehead & Wood with a professional, modern digital platform.
Client feedback and legacy
Managing Director Simon praised the final result, saying: “The website looks really professional and sharp – thanks for all your input!”
Although now archived, this project illustrates Think’s approach to combining design, performance and client collaboration to deliver websites that are as functional as they are visually engaging.
