Pop-up Adventure Play

Charity rebrand and web design for global non-profit Pop-up Adventure Play

The challenge

Pop-Up Adventure Play are a global, but small, independent non-profit charity organisation, whose aim is to help make children’s right to play a reality in every community. Operating primarily in the US and UK, they provide free public events for children to come and play together using cardboard boxes, fabric, tape and more.

Think were initially approached with the prospect of designing and building a new website for Pop-Up Adventure Play, but after taking a close look at their old logo and branding we saw there was a real opportunity for improvement on both fronts, which we knew would allow us to design a much stronger website for Pop-Up Adventure Play.

The approach

Their old logo featured illustration prominently which was something we felt essential to take forward with the new logo design. The challenge was to keep the playful essence while updating the logo with a modern, friendly illustration style and contemporary typography.

Once the logo was finalised a strong visual style was created during the website design process. The new logo influenced the design of a repeating pattern of icons used across the website, this was paired with a handwritten typeface and graphic elements with a tactile feel, all designed to keep the playful aesthetic while balancing it with an established and professional look critical for a charity to have. Literature in the form of a ‘Mini Pop-up Kit’ and stationery was also produced in the new brand style.

“Think Design Manchester demonstrates the effectiveness of a small business on a global scale. We are so very pleased to be working with such wonderful creatives, who are clearly knowledgeable and trustworthy. We will continue our relationship with them as we expand our organisation and can’t recommend them highly enough, especially when considering a charity rebrand.”
