The brief: Patterdale Mountain Rescue Annual Report Design
We were approached by Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team (PMRT) to create a professional-looking Annual Report that would communicate their work, impact, and fundraising activity with clarity and authority. With so many vital stories to tell, including callout statistics, training, finances, and volunteer experiences, the challenge was to bring everything together in a way that felt engaging, accessible, and true to the spirit of the organisation.
The concept
As one of the UK’s busiest Mountain Rescue Teams, the report needed to do more than just present numbers. It had to capture the energy and dedication of the volunteers who risk their lives in some of the UK’s toughest terrain. Our design solution combined bold typography, impactful photography, and clear data visualisation, ensuring readers could quickly understand the scale of PMRT’s work while also feeling emotionally connected to their mission.
Design and layout
We created a functional grid system to organise the complex content like incident reports, medical updates, and financial summaries.
Each section was colour-coded for clarity and supported by infographics that simplified key data. Pull out quotes and full-page photography gave the report design rhythm, balancing factual reporting with powerful storytelling.
The design also included clear calls to action, such as joining the Supporters’ Club or making a donation. These were positioned throughout the report to encourage ongoing support. Accessibility was a priority too, with clean typography and high contrast making the report easy to read in both print and digital formats.
The result
The finished report gave PMRT a credible, professional publication that reflects the importance of their work. It’s both a practical tool for reporting back to supporters and a showcase of the passion, bravery, and community spirit that drive the organisation.
