Design brief and creative challenge
Back in 2012, Paul was asked to create a submissions box for Balfour Beatty Healthcare. Although now an archived project, it remains a strong example of how sustainable packaging can balance functionality and style. The brief required a fully recyclable solution that could hold a 210mm square brochure alongside flexible inserts for USB sticks, CDs or DVDs, all while delivering a premium feel.
Design solution and materials
Our design solution was a 225 mm square, 25 mm deep self-contained box, constructed entirely from 100% recycled greyboard. We wrapped it in Colorset 120gsm paper, one of the highest-quality coloured stocks available in recycled formats. The box featured a 6-page gatefold design with a central tray, modular inserts for media and a practical ribbon pull for easy brochure removal. The exterior was finished with metallic silver hot-foil blocking, creating a sophisticated look without compromising its eco-credentials.
Legacy and lasting value
Though this is now part of our design archives, the Balfour Beatty submissions box continues to showcase how you can merge eco-conscious materials with considered craftsmanship. It stands as an early demonstration of how sustainability and premium presentation can go hand in hand. This philosophy continues to guide our packaging and brand design projects today.
