The brief: Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team annual report design case study
The Patterdale Mountain Rescue Team (PMRT) approached us to create a professional Annual Report that clearly and authoritatively communicates their work, impact and fundraising activity. PMRT had many vital stories to tell, including callout statistics, training, finances and volunteer experiences.
Our challenge was to bring everything together in a format that felt engaging and accessible, while staying true to the spirit of the organisation.
The concept
As one of the UK’s busiest mountain rescue teams, the report needed to do more than just present numbers. It had to capture the energy and dedication of the volunteers who risk their lives in some of the UK’s toughest terrain. We combined bold typography, impactful photography and clear data visualisation to present the report.
This approach helps readers quickly understand the scale of PMRT’s work and feel emotionally connected to their mission.
Design and layout
We created a functional grid system to organise the complex content like incident reports, medical updates, and financial summaries.
Each section was colour-coded for clarity and supported by infographics that simplified key data. Pull out quotes and full-page photography gave the report a confident graphic design approach, balancing factual reporting with powerful storytelling.
The design also included clear calls to action, such as joining the Supporters’ Club or making a donation. These were positioned throughout the report to encourage ongoing support. Accessibility was a priority too, with clean typography and high contrast making the report easy to read in both print and digital formats.
The result
The finished report gave PMRT a credible, professional publication that reflects the importance of their work. It’s both a practical tool for reporting back to supporters and a showcase of the passion, bravery and community spirit that drive the organisation.
