I’m sure I’ve said this before but it is very satisfying to see a design style that I have created roll out into the various forms of media, such as this lovely piece of design work.
Connect Plus Services are the business responsible for the improvement and maintenance of the M25 – a huge 30 year contract worth several billion pounds – who are part owned by Balfour Beatty.
As is common for a business of this nature, they are required to constantly assess and update their strategy and forward thinking. As a result they write a new business plan every few years to take any changing circumstances into account.
The design work
As the report is required to be customer facing (that’s us road users as well) plus it was decided that they should publish it in the new design style I had been working on.
The report was very heavy in content and detail – it needed to be – so the challenge was to design a brochure that had an easy to read feel about it by breaking the content up with large hero images and quotes, plus the ‘designer’ white space.
The design style itself was created to reflect the nature of the business – using the visual language of motorways and roads but in a subtle way.
Printed 4 colour process on a 100% recycled paper, it was the best report that had every had designed.
This piece of lovely graphic design was part of a body of design work produced for Connect Plus M25 between 2013-2014 (whilst I was at Make Complex Simple) which included re-writing and redsigning the corporate guidelines and redesigning their website.
