Earlier this year we were asked by Balfour Beatty to design a report that had been jointly produced by Costain, Balfour Beatty, Skanska, Morgan Sindall, BDV Recovery and Highways England. The brief was to create a design a report for Highways England, but it was important that it didn’t look like a Highways England report.
The report’s primary focus was to inform contractors on inclusion and accessibility and be an aid to best practice on highways construction projects. With it being multi-company led, use of images was limited, so we focussed on creating an eye catching design that used the graphic language of road signs.
We also used the typeface Transport, the font used on all UK road signs to help reinforce this style.
The design was created at 210mm square and ran to 28 pages. We particularly like the simplicity in the concept and execution of the report’s design.
