Having worked with Galloways Printers for 10 years I was thrilled to be asked to look at revamping their brand design. Galloways is a family run and owned traditional high end lithographic print company that recently just celebrated its 140 year anniversary.
Why the need for a new brand design?
After surviving the recent double dip recession (unlike many other print businesses), Andy Galloway along with his son Matt and fellow board members identified that in order to survive, and more importantly, grow the business, they needed to slowly reposition the company to be able to offer more services to their customers.
As it stood the business’s sole service was litho print and digital print. With the passion and desire to embrace such a large change, they approached me to review and completely overhaul their businesses brand design and style. Using my marketing experience they also asked me to come up with a positioning statement they could slowly introduce to their existing customer base. What also wasn’t helping was the disparate look and feel the existing brand design had evolved into over time.
What the brand identity review and redesign entailed
After several meetings, I finally received the brief. As family run and owned business for the past 140 years their only wish was to retain their surname initial in the design of the logo. Understandable given their customers associate the name to quality print. After reviewing their existing logo design and marketing strategy I proposed several logo designs and positioning statements. These all related to keywords they felt summed up their business, brand reputation and where they wanted to be.
The logo design they chose was based on a colour wheel, giving the logo a respectful nod to the company’s history, also featuring a capital G for Galloways. Backed by the simple positioning statement that could also be a strapline, we were able to roll out across the following items:
• Business cards
• Compliments slip
• Staff id cards
• Van livery
• Management system stationery such as estimates
It was a great project to work on and I’m looking forward to working with them on their digital marketing and new website design later this year.
