What’s your role at Think?
I’m part of the development team at Think which means I am responsible for building websites and making changes to websites that Think are involved with. As a developer, an important part of my role is to take the designs created by our talented design team and build them as close as possible to the intended vision before deploying it for the internet to see.
What first got you interested in coding?
I first got interested in coding back when I was about 14 or 15 years old when I fell victim to a phishing scam (embarrassing, I know) which promised free FIFA Ultimate Team players. After realising my account had been wiped, rather than being upset, I was intrigued enough to figure out how it was done. This event ended up being my introduction into development!
Which project are you most proud of?
The project I am most proud of is the award-winning Once Upon a Smile website. There are several reasons why I’m proud of this one. The first reason being that it’s a charitable organisation, which I think has a fantastic cause which aims to help children and families through the bereavement process of losing a loved one. Read our Once Upon A Smile case study to learn more about the project. Another reason why I am proud of this website is that it was my first solo build while working at Think and due to having such a great design (shoutout to Paige), it ended up being an award-winning website.
What’s your comfort TV show or film?
I usually like to find new shows and films to watch rather than rewatching what I’ve already seen. However, if I had to choose, I’m always happy to watch The Lord of the Rings or the Pirates of the Caribbean (I don’t count the last 2) trilogies. I also have a soft spot for Game of Thrones despite the ending.
If you could give one tip to businesses when it comes to their website, what would it be?
If I could give one tip to a business about their website, it would be to grab the user’s attention straight away. Visitors usually decide within just a few seconds whether or not they want to stay on the website, so a clear message along with strong visuals and an easy navigation are incredibly important. The longer a potential customer stays on a website, the more chance the business has of getting its message across. This is why I think the hero element (home page banner) is one of the most important elements of a website.
What does your ideal weekend look like?
My ideal weekend usually involves a whole lot of nothing. It’s nice to get out and do things every now and again, but for me, there’s nothing better than a relaxing weekend watching the football or playing the PlayStation, only made better if it’s raining outside. Of course, something usually crops up like babysitting or dogsitting, but there’s nothing better than a completely free weekend!
