Josh Allen

Marketing Executive Assistant

Socially savvy and able to support your brand’s presence through social marketing, campaigns and copywriting.

Beginning his journey with Think at 18 as an apprentice, Josh is dedicated to helping deliver high-quality social media campaigns.

What’s your journey at Think been like so far?

Starting in 2021 in a Level 3 Digital Marketing apprenticeship. I have been continually evolving in my role for nearly 5 years, currently in my 3rd year of a Degree Apprenticeship at Manchester Metropolitan University.

As the Digital Marketing Executive, my role involves developing a range of marketing content for clients, with a focus on social media management for posts and content creation. This is perfect for my working mindset, as it offers an opportunity to learn about other sectors while researching topics for clients, giving me creative freedom when developing content.

What first got you interested in your role?

I studied Creative Media in college, but wasn’t 100% sure which area I wanted to enter, as lockdown limited the available areas of study in the course. There was a focus on advertising, which I found interesting, so when the opportunity to discuss an apprenticeship with Think arose, I was excited to learn more.

Since then, I’ve developed a passion for the creative marketing sector, which has helped me further develop my knowledge and skills and better define my role.

Is there a piece of work that really stands out in your career so far?

While not a specific campaign, I always loved working with the team at The Brick Specialists (formerly Manchester Brick Specialists). While it started as regular social media content creation, they supported me when we first started developing short-form video content.

I have plenty of fond memories of attending various events for the brick industry, creating content for TBS and experimenting with new ideas.

What’s your go-to spot in Manchester?

I love going to YES, just off Oxford Road in town. It’s an all-in-one for a great night out!

Multiple stages make it a popular choice for local and international indie artists, and I have attended many a gig there. The rooftop bar area is a great vibe, especially in summer, with a great drinks selection to match. Not to mention, possibly the best pizza you can find in town.

Can you give us any tips for posting on socials?

Always understand the intricacies of each platform. Just because a scheduling tool lets you post a certain way, it doesn’t mean that’s what you should do.

For example, Instagram lets you type out web links in a post’s caption, but you can’t click on them, so why bother? Having an unclickable link in the caption can show lack of understanding of the platform, while also appearing generally messy. Instagram also lets you post landscape images, which look great on the feed, but can make your profile look disorganised.

There is so much more to consider when posting beyond whether the image, caption, and hashtags are in order, and it can make or break your social campaigns.

What album could you listen to forever?

This is an evil question! But probably Nurture by Porter Robinson. It’s an album with a lot of emotional, vulnerable lyrics that contrast with its warm, inviting Electropop and EDM instrumentals.

It sounded like nothing I’d heard before when I first listened to it in 2021, like Daft Punk soundtracking a Legend of Zelda game. Since then, it has had many imitators who have tried to capture the sound and emotion of Nurture, but they lack the magic that makes it so special.
